Well, CaliKat and I are planning to go to Burbank. We have been wanting to go for three years. Some of you may recall this, but we were very close to going in 2003, but it was a promise my mother could not keep. :tear

But our spirits shall not be broken! We plan to go in January, raising money all by ourselves. :happydance

CaliKat and I both being fourteen, it shall be a bit of a challenge to even find jobs. Well, Cali has a job working at McDonald's, and if my mom does enough convincing, I'll be working at a local amusment park, Funtown USA. I don't know how much Cali will be working, but I do know that fun shall be a rare thing for me this summer.

Hopefully, MystikGab will be joining us, and so will her girl Sam.

Can it be done? :dunno

We'll find out.

So, does anyone have any tips from previous Creation Entertainment conventions? I have a few questions:

-When is the best time to book a reservation at the hotel?

-Who else from Whoosh will be going?

-Does anyone know the cheapest place to find plane tickets?

Does anyone have any advice in general?

I have a couple questions to add to the list, but unfortunately I can't help you out with any of yours! Except for the one about Whoosh... I know I'm going as are a few others thus far!
I'm trying to figure out how much time I should devote to working in lab next semester... so... Here goes:

What all do you have to pay for once at the Con? (food, autographs, pictures, etc...)

And.. What are the photo op tickets I've heard about?

Well I plan on going next year. Photo ops are pretty cool. They are $30-40 depending on who you want your pic with. Money all depends on what you want to buy there and what kind of ticket you have. If you only have general and you want a couple of autographs you'll have to bring money for that. Gold tickets include most autographs and if you want the stars to sign individual pics you have to buy those. You could just buy one big poster or something and have them all sign it. If you have a gold ticket and you go to the Charity breakfast you want to bring extra spending money for that cuz they have a raffle and they also have a silent auction. Auctions go on during the convention too and you can get some good deals there. There's lots more to say but I gotta go hope this was helpful.

Ok, let's take this one at a time.

First, as for a hotel, I would say as early as possible. The Burbank Hilton is the only hotel in the area. Second, as for other Whoosh people, I am going, and I know there will be others, but I'm not sure exactly who. But as we get closer to January we will have regular updates. Third, for plane tickets, if you don't have a travel agent, there's www.expedia.com, www.orbitz.com, and www.cheaptickets.com. There is also www.priceline.com.

A1ecto, I'll start with photo ops. It's a chance to have your picture taken with your celeb of choice with a good digital camera. Here are three of mine:

Pasadena 2003

Brooklyn 2003

Burbank 2004

Virtually all the attending celebs do it, and they're nice to have. Now, as to the price breakdown, it goes like this:

Flight- Depends on you
Hotel- Between $104/night
Con tickets- Gold (First ten rows)- $389 for the weekend
Preferred (Next ten rows)- around $250 or more
General Admission- around $40 per day
I always do Gold so I could be wrong about the other prices. Creation has yet to post them. Plus, if you do Gold or Preferred, the celeb's autographs are free. If you do General, they're usually $40 apiece. Creation also has two evening performances. Admission for Gold is included in the the ticket price but like the autographs, Preferred and General has to pay separate. Starting this year Creation also added separate "dinner parties". I use quotes because it's basically you sitting at a table while whatever guest celebs attend circulate around. Everyone has to pay for these, and this year they cost $50. I don't know if Creation will do it again in 2004, it depends on the feedback they get. I know from talking to people most of us were disappointed. For $50 we should have gotten a little more.

Photo ops go for around $30 but Hudson costs $40.

Meals- If you don't have a car you're pretty much limited to the hotel and since they're the only ones around they are very expensive. I would say around $25 per person per meal. I know Domino's delivers to the hotel but I don't know the charge. The convention center does have a sort of "cafeteria" for the con attendees. The food is basically sandwiches, hot dogs, salads, etc. With a can of soda it's around $8.

Con merchandise- It depends on what you buy. If you want, you can buy the photos for the autographs at the con. An 8x10 costs about $8.

There will also be several auctions of different things, but that's up to you.

Now would be good. You do have to have a credit card for verification and that's what you pay buy.

Yep. I'm going. Cross country trip all by myself. I'm pumped.

You can try the online sites, but I also suggest trying the airlines, even a travel agency. I plan on doing that come September/October.

Other tips:

Go for gold, but there was only a limited amount available a month ago. They don't say on their site, but it'd be worth an email to Sharon at outback@creationent.com to find out if there are any available and when the preferred will go on sale.

NOTE: They do charge up front for the tickets and they'll be sent out 2 weeks in advance unless you tell them to hold them at the will call.

If you do get gold, get there on Thursday so you can pre-register so you can enter the con on Friday without trouble.

Food, as Arp pointed out there's not much to offer in terms of meals. (It's good that Domino's delivers. I see pizza's in my future.)

Photos: You can get photo ops that cost extra. I don't plan on going for that. Because for me, it's more about the atomsphere than the hubnubbing. Unless of course, Adrienne Wilkinson is there, I might splurge and get a photo op.

If that is not an option for you and you want pictures, get a good digital camera or a good 35mm camera with a good zoom. Both can be pricy. My new digital camera costed me $500. But it's worth it. I've taken some awesome pictures of the woodpecker living across the street from me in a tree.

I'll point out that this trip can cost you upwards of $1000 or more, depending on your location, how long you plan to stay, etc.

Also, fly into Burbank International Airport. The hotel offers a free shuttle to and from the airport. In fact, from my understanding, it's only a 5 minute walk from the airport to the hotel. If you don't mind lugging your luggage around.

One note about flying into Burbank. Depending on where you're coming from, Burbank is harder to get into than LAX. For example, if I went from Boston to LAX, I could probably go non-stop direct. Since I fly from Providence, to Lax is one stop and Burbank is two stops. I just put this in because I known some people have strong feelings about flying. If you do wish to/have to fly in LAX Super Shuttle could probably take you to the Burbank hotel for about $15.

As for walking to the hotel from the airport, it's definitely more than five minutes because you have to walk out of the airport complex and find your way to the hotel. It's not a straight line. It's a lot easier to take the shuttle as they run every 15 minutes.

Therefore I have purchased yet another notebook and am doing all the math to figure out just how much I will be spending in Burbank this upcoming January. I am going. There is no "probably" or "maybe" in my dictionary. We are going Minya, don't have a "Might do" attitude.Have a "will do" attitude! Shammy says that if you can't work at funtown she'll hire you as well. But you want to work outside..I'm getting off topic. Anyways, I have a few questions of my own, however. Here goes nothing:

-Does anyone know where I can get a list of who is going to be there and the events during the convention? (I found this for the 2003 trip but have lost it since)

-How much do teeshirts usually go for?

-Are there any other alternatives for restaurants? As in...are there restaurants around the hotel area that we could go?

Oh, and I've heard from more than one person from their experience that Creation can be a bit of a pain to deal with. I heard they care more about getting money from everyone rather than the well-being of the fans. Is it true?

I've been trying to figure out how much it will cost me to go, coming from Boston and everything, and it just seems like so much, especially since I am a college student, and I will just be returning from New Zealand about a week before, but I still have my fingers crossed :crossfingers

More about travelling.

If you fly into Burbank, it's $7 for the shuttle now (gas prices are killing everyone). If you fly into LAX it's roughly $25.

As to when the list of guests will be decided, that's up to Creation. Just keep checking the site. As for Creation's attitude, it depends on who you talk to. I've had my share of problems. While it was solved, what bugged me was how long it took, almost three months!
As for other restaurants, if you don't have a car, you're stuck in the hotel. Unless you want to pay for a cab.
Xie, when you say $7 for the shuttle, do you mean the hotel's own airport shuttle?

I checked their website last night (or whenever) and it now states $7 for the shuttle from Burbank and $23 for the shuttle from LAX.

Which is new, because when I checked it a month ago, it was free and at $15 for the shuttle from LAX.

Warning:

If you're going to arrive at LAX be prepared for anything. I live about 50 miles away. Almost everyday it's something there to hold up traffic. I think it was yesterday, they had a terrorist drill and held up passengers.

Last week the power was out for about a couple of hours.

Those people are soo jumpy over there, that if a cell phone rings, they're pushing everyone out the building. :yep

But I guess they have a right to be. And it's better to be safe than sorry.

Just be prepared to wait awhile. So get an early enough flight. I hope the day of the convention, everything will go smooth.

I'll be arriving at LAX somewhere around noon on Thursday, I think. I don't have my plans laying in front of me, but I scheduled arriving [extremely] early just in case I got lost in that huuuuuuuuuge airport- which I'm bound to do- and in case there were traffic/security/shuttle problems, etc. Can't hurt, right? I'll just have to hunt down the other Whooshites as they arrive

Hopefully we'll have the logo copywrite issue worked out and can offer Whoosh! t-shirts in the Whoosh! store by then. If not, I could probably enlarge the logo and flip it, so people can print them out on a transfer and iron it on to a t-shirt themselves.

If everyone wears Whoosh! t-shirts, it should be pretty easy to find each other.
